Firm Overview
The
Law Offices of James N. Bostic were established in June 1997 as a firm
devoted primarily to the practice of Oil & Gas Law, with a strong
focus on a practice before Texas regulatory agencies, such as the
Railroad Commission and the General Land Office. The Austin,
Texas location of the firm facilitates continuous interaction with such
agencies, and the personnel who run them.
The
firm's solo practitioner attorney, Jim Bostic, has been continuously
involved in such a practice since his graduation from the University of
Texas School of Law, with Honors, in 1991. Prior to the founding of the
firm, Jim had practiced law as an associate with two other law firms in
Austin.
In
addition to being Board Certified in Oil, Gas & Mineral Law by the
Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Jim Bostic is also a Texas
Registered Professional Engineer. Following his 1974 graduation, with
honors, from the Petroleum Engineering College of the University of
Texas, Jim practiced petroleum engineering as his sole and full time
profession until commencing law school in 1988. During those
"engineering years," Jim's primary areas of expertise were in reservoir
engineering, pressure transient analysis, economic and acquisition
evaluation, and regulatory affairs.
The
firm's guiding principles are personal and professional service,
integrity, competency, and responsibility. These attributes are more
easily maintained by the firm's solo practitioner orientation.
Jim
Bostic's 30-plus year involvement in myriad areas of the oil and gas
industry, enable him to bring a wide-ranging perspective to the cases
in which he participates. In particular, the highly technical nature of
many of the oil and gas cases that come before the State agencies
charged with regulating the industry makes Jim's technical expertise a
significant asset to the handling of such cases.
The
firm's practice is not, however, limited to handling only regulatory
cases before State agencies. As noted above, Jim Bostic is Board
Certified in Oil, Gas & Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal
Specialization, and he has extensive experience in contract
negotiations and the preparation and review of oil and gas documents
and instruments, and most other oil and gas issues. While the firm does
not directly handle title examinations or courthouse litigation, it
associates with other attorneys who do handle such matters when that
becomes necessary in a particular case. Litigation support on oil and
gas law issues, as opposed to the direct handling of the litigation
itself, is an additional area of the firm's core competency.
